CYNTHIA NEILL BELMONT DESIGN

Tell us a little bit about yourself. From the time I was very young, I loved drawing floor plans and looking at pictures of furniture in catalogs. I also loved my father's dental office.

Where are you from? I grew up in Carbondale, Ill, and graduated from SIU in 1972, with a degree in Interior Design.

What is your ASID story? I began the AID process in 1973 when I moved to St. Louis. The timing coincided with the merger of AID and NSID, to become ASID. The NCIDQ exam.

What inspires you? In our creative world of design, nothing inspires me more than God's Creation!

What do you like to do for fun? Besides spending time with family and friends, I enjoy being involved in a variety of organizations and studies.

If you were a crayon, what would be your color and name? Multi colors, vivid pastels.

What is your favorite food or restaurant? Steak, a baked potato loaded with butter and sour cream, and red velvet cake on the patio, with all of the family.

Carley Maschmeier

RUTH JENSON VILLAGE

Can you give us a brief bio? I’m a recent graduate from SIBA looking for a start in the Design field. I’m pulled towards space planning and renovations!

Where are you from? Louisiana, Missouri

What is your ASID story? I heard all about ASID in school and when I saw the competition I decided to send in some ideas.

What inspires you? This is a hard question to answer because I find inspiration in everything. When I walk around I try to spot detail in what I look at and pick out what I do and don’t like or what could work better. I feel like I find the most inspiration in nature. The colors I see I use most often in my own personal choices or projects I worked on in school.

What do you like to do for fun? I love traveling with my boyfriend and our dog. We love finding new places to go and explore. Although he likes to explore the woods more I always drag us into the thrift and antique shops along the way!

If you were a crayon, what would be your Color and Name? I would be the color Veridian and would keep my name as that. I think it’s the most calming and beautiful green!

What is your favorite food or restaurant? Crab legs in a cajun boil.

Spittal Powder Room

YOUTOPIA DESIGNS

What was your inspiration for this project?

There was no shortage of design inspiration when it came to this family's lively and colorful personalities and designers knew that this was the perfect room to create an outsize design statement. A small pedestal sink, taupe grasscloth wallpaper, and carpet were the base of this powder room design, tackled in an entire home redesign. Matte porcelain tile simulating calacatta marble was used for the flooring, which neutralizes the new matte black picket tile that lines the bottom half of the walls and the sumptuous mural that covers the top half. The lacquered turquoise vanity stands prominent against the matte tile and adds flair to the room by highlighting the colors in the mural.
